This function displays a 3D representation of selected colors in a CIE-L*ab tridimensional space. CIE-L*, a* and b* axes are also displayed.

Before actually displaying the 3D area, the operator is prompted to select the specific viewing mode:

3D modes

edi_radio

Clipboard

This mode displays a 3D representation of the clipboard colors.

Each individual clipboard color is represented as a colored sphere in the CIE-L*ab space.

edi_check

Position # 1 relative space

3d_view_rel

This option will display a 3D representation of the clipboard colors in a relative color space where clipboard color #1 represent the origin of the space axes.

Each individual clipboard color is represented as a colored sphere in the space.

edi_radio

This file

This mode displays a 3D representation of the active file color space.

Each individual color is represented as a colored cube in the space.

edi_radio

This file + clipboard

This mode displays a 3D representation of the clipboard and active file colors

Each individual clipboard color is represented as a colored sphere.

For an easy and immediate gamut/space comparison, each individual active file color is represented as a gray cube.

edi_radio

This file + other file

3d_view_two

This mode displays a 3D representation of the active file color space compared with a second comparison file.

Before actually displaying the 3D area, the operator is prompted to select the second comparison file. A compatible ColorD3 file must be selected.

Each individual active file color is represented as a colored cube.

For an easy and immediate gamut/space comparison, each individual second file color is represented as a gray prism.

edi_radio

File with limited color space

This mode displays a 3D representation of the active file color space limited to a specific "slice" of the total color space.

Specific L* and H° limits can be manually inserted. Leaving a limit to 0 will visualize the full color extension for that value.

Each individual color is represented as a colored cube in the space.

edi_radio

File with limited components

3d_view_one

This mode displays a 3D representation of the active file color space limited to specific formula components.

Colors containing a specific base or colorant can be individually displayed. For each base and colorant selection, a list of all files contents is available. It's also possible to select "All bases" or "All colorants" to widen the plotting content.

Each individual color is represented as a colored cube in the space.

edi_radio

Selected color surrounding area

This mode will display the space surrounding the selected color.

The selected color will become the origin of the space axes and all colors, within the preset Delta E* value, will be displayed as colored cubes.

kstep1Buttons are available while selecting the desired 3D view:

edi_exit

This button aborts the function and gives back control to the application. No 3D plotting is performed.

edi_ok

Opens the 3D window. A black plotting area will be displayed with dedicated controls on the lower part of the screen.

kstep1On the lower part of the 3D viewing area, dedicated buttons and controls are available for navigation/viewing purposes:

3d_up 3d_down

These buttons vertically rotate the viewing angle. Clicking on the 3D area and dragging the mouse will also rotate the viewing angle

3d_left 3d_right

These buttons horizontally rotate the viewing angle. Clicking on the 3D area and dragging the mouse will also rotate the viewing angle

Zoom

The slide bar allows to zoom in and out the viewing area.

3d_loop

This button starts an automatic rotation of the 3D space. Clicking a second time on this button or clicking on any point in the 3D area will stop the rotation.

3d_exit

This button quits the 3D viewing window and gives back control to the application.

Clicking on the 3D area and dragging the mouse will rotate the viewing angle. For a more accurate viewing position use the navigation buttons previously described.
